About
NordVPN is a vpn companies that offers private and anonymous internet access services and it is based in Panama.
Here is a detailed NordVPN review.
VyprVPN, on the other hand, is a vpn company owned and operated by Golden Frog and is based in Switzerland.
Here is the link to an in depth review of VyprVPN.
Server Collection
How many servers do NordVPN and VyprVPN have?
In order to be able to offer great connection speeds a vpn needs to spread its servers to cover a large geographical region.

NordVPN currently has more than 5,200 vpn servers that are located in 59 different countries across different continents.
VyprVPN, at the time of writing this review, has a collection of around 700 servers located in 70 different countries.

As you can see, VyprVPN has a smaller collection of servers yet they are better distributed across more countries than NordVPN.
If you are looking for a vpn that has a wider reach in terms of server distribution then VyprVPN is a great option.
Streaming
Will you be able to stream Netflix with NordVPN and VyprVPN?
Like I said at the beginning of this review, VyprVPN and NordVPN are two amazing vpns when it comes to their abilities to unblock content on streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu among others.

NordVPN is able to unblock content on Netflix for different countries including the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Brazil and Japan.
In addition to Netflix, you’ll also be able to access video content on other streaming platforms like Hulu, BBC iPlayer and Amazon Prime Video.
VyprVPN is also great at unblocking Netflix tv series for the different countries that you’d like to stream.

Apart from Netflix, VyprVPN will also enable you to stream your favorite tv series on Amazon Prime Video, Hulu and BBC iPlayer.
Clearly, these two vpns are great for streaming.
If you are particularly looking for a vpn to use for streaming online content, then both NordVPN and VyprVPN are great options for you.
Speed
If a vpn has a slow connection speed, you’ll not have a great streaming experience because most of your videos would be buffering a lot… especially if you want to stream HD or 4K quality videos.
So let’s which is faster between VyprVPN and NordVPN.
I tested the speeds of both VyprVPN and NordVPN by connecting to three different servers based in three different locations.

After connecting to three different servers in the USA, UK and Hong Kong, I used speedtest.net to test for ping, download and upload speeds.
NordVPN gave me an average of 83% of my original download speeds for each of the servers that I connected to.
It gives NordVPN a speed rating of 4.1/5.0 stars.
VyprVPN, on the other hand, did not perform as great because I got an average speed drop of upto 79% on the three servers I connected to.

While 79% of original connection speeds are still good enough, I consider that an excellent vpn should give me at least 80% of my original connection speed.
For normal browsing, you wouldn’t experience this difference is speed, but if you want a vpn that enables you to stream at great speeds then I recommend NordVPN.
Torrenting
Recent research shows that apart from streaming, another reason most people purchase vpn services is for the purpose of downloading torrent files.
So while writing this NordVPN vs VyprVPN review, I wanted which between NordVPN or VyprVPN allows torrenting.
Anti piracy laws have become tougher and most vpns have completely blocked torrent traffic on their servers.

If you want to stay away from a lawsuit always ensure you only download torrent files after connecting to a vpn or proxy server.
NordVPN, luckily, allows torrenting on its servers but only on certain servers.
In order to start torrenting you first need to connect to P2P optimized servers so that your torrenting traffic is not throttled.

Even though not all NordVPN servers support torrenting, you still get a huge selection of P2P servers to choose from.
VyprVPN, on the other hand, allows torrenting and P2P file sharing on all servers.
You don’t need to connect to any special servers in order to start downloads using your favorite torrenting client.
Any server can do.
So, while VyprVPN has less servers in general, it is more optimized for torrenting as all servers allow P2P downloads.
If you are looking for a vpn that is great for torrenting then I recommend NordVPN because it will let you torrent at faster speeds than VyprVPN.
Privacy Policy
Privacy and anonymity online is one of the main reasons why people purchase vpns in 2021.
If you spend most of your time online then your ISP could be having a entire log of everything you’ve everything done or accessed online.
That not only gives unnecessary powers to your ISP but this information could also easily be used against you someday.

It is however surprising to note that while vpns protect you from your government and ISP, some vpn instead log your internet activity… which beats the whole point of using a vpn in the first place.
So which, between VyprVPN and NordVPN, does not keep logs whenever you connect to their vpn servers?
Let’s begin by looking at their jurisdictions and then their privacy policies.
NordVPN being based in Panama is located in a pretty privacy friendly location.
Panama does not have mandatory data retention laws that obligate vpns to keep activity logs of their users.

In addition to that, NordVPN also details clearly on their privacy policy that they do not log your IP address, connection timestamps, bandwidth usage or DNS queries.

It is there a true zero logs vpn that ensures your internet usage history is only known to you and you alone.
VyprVPN, on the other hand, is based in Switzerland, which also does not form part of the 14 eyes countries.
At the time of writing this NordVPN vs VyprVPN review, Switzerland is a pretty much privacy friendly location for a vpn.
Initially, VyprVPN used to collect logs of your IP address, connection timestamp and bandwidth usage…
With this information, it could be very easy to tie you to certain activities on a particular vpn server.
However, they overhauled their privacy policy and do not keep any activity logs anymore.
So it is completely okay to say that both NordVPN and VyprVPN and truly no logs vpn services in 2021 if you are looking for a vpn that provides complete privacy online.
Encryption and Data Protection
You need to use top notch encryption technologies to ensure that your data is tamper proof even if it lands in the hands of a malicious hacker.
There are standard encryption technologies use in order to achieve this.
Both VyprVPN and NordVPN use NSA recommended AES 256-bit encryption technology to ensure that your data is secure before transmission over the network.

In addition to encryption technologies, vpns also employ the use of connection protocols to enable safe communication between the vpn app and server.
NordVPN uses OpenVPN and IKEv2/IPSec connection protocols for its apps.
OpenVPN is the default protocol for all desktop apps, including Android, whereas IKEv2 is used in their iOS app.
VyprVPN also supports OpenVPN, IKEv2/IPSec and an additional protocol called Chameleon vpn protocol.

The Chameleon protocol is particularly great for bypassing content censorship in certain countries as we’ll discover later in this NordVPN vs VyprVPN 2021 review.
Overall, both NordVPN and VyprVPN have pretty safe and bulletproof technologies that guarantee your security online.
Ad Blocker
An ad blocker enables you to block intrusive ads that make for a horrible browsing experience these days.
Because most people have become ad blind, most websites have become very aggressive with ads which annoys most website browsers.
While you can also block ads and tracking from within your browser, an effective way is to use a vpn ad blocker.

How does VyprVPN and NordVPN compare in terms of their ad blocking capabilities?
NordVPN has a powerful CyberSec feature that enables you to completely block ads from displaying on most websites that you visit.
It also protects your device from being infected by malware in case you visit a malware infected website.
VyprVPN also has an ad blocking capability but it functionals in a different way.
When this feature is activated in channels your traffic through a NAT firewall that is able to block ads as well as effectively protect your connected devices from malware.
In short, either NordVPN or VyprVPN will be able to effectively protect from intrusive ads and malware.
Dedicated IPs
A dedicated IP enables you connect to the internet every time using the same IP.

This is especially important if you want to remotely access certain applications that require you to use a whitelisted IP address every time you access them.

NordVPN provides with selection of servers to choose if you want to always connect to the internet using the same IP address.
You can then take these IP addresses and whitelist in your work network, at no additional cost.

VyprVPN, unfortunately, does not support dedicated IP address… so you only have access to shared IPs that’ll change every time you connect.
If you are looking for a vpn that provides you with dedicated IP addresses for personal use, then I recommend NordVPN.
Kill Switch
If you always want to only access the internet through a vpn, then you need a vpn with a kill switch.
An automatic internet kill switch ensures that every time your vpn disconnects from the vpn server, for example because of a connection drop, internet access is cut off for your entire device until the vpn app reconnects to the server.
This ensures that your torrent clients pauses so as not to reveal your IP address.

So which one, between NordVPN and VyprVPN, has a kill switch?

Luckily, both VyprVPN and NordVPN, have an inbuilt kill switch that when turned on will ensure all internet access on your device is encrypted and channelled through your vpn tunnel.
If you are looking for a vpn with kill switch capabilities then both vpns are great.
Split Tunnelling
In case you need certain applications to be exempted from having their traffic channelled through a kill switch then you need a split tunnel.
For example, you may not want you backup app slowed down by speed drops caused by vpn connections.
NordVPN has a split tunnel that lets you specify certain apps to be exempted.
Remember that the internet traffic through these whitelisted apps is not encrypted by the vpn and so is visible to your ISP.
VyprVPN, unfortunately, does not have a split tunnel and therefore cannot help you exempt certain apps from your vpn.
So if you are looking for a vpn that allows split tunneling then I recommend NordVPN.
Does it work in China?
In order to be able to bypass the great firewall of China and access censored content without being detected, you need a vpn with strong obfuscation technology.

China’s firewall uses a deep packet inspection technology that is able to detect and block or throttle vpn traffic.
Will NordVPN work in China?
YES. But you first need to connect to special obfuscated servers if you need to access internet in restricted countries like China.
In order to find the obfuscated servers, you need to click on the obfuscated servers option in the app menu.
You’ll then get a list of a variety of servers to connect to.

VyprVPN is also able to bypass China’s firewall and access restricted content in China using the Chameleon protocol.
Because China’s firewall is particularly good at detecting and blocking OpenVPN traffic, the Chameleon offers a way to fly under the radar without being detected.
So VyprVPN works in China too.
If you are looking for a vpn that you can carry with you to China then both NordVPN and VyprVPN are great options.
Pricing
How much does it cost to use either VyprVPN or NordVPN?
Let’s finish this VyprVPN vs NordVPN comparison in 2021 by looking at their cheapest pricing plans.

NordVPN has their cheapest plan being the 3 year subscription that costs $ 3.49/month where VyprVPN cheapest plan is their 2 year subscription that goes for $ 2.71/month.

Clearly, VyprVPN is a cheaper vpn and more pocket friendly than NordVPN.
Payment Options
Does any of these two vpns offer an anonymous payment method like gift cards or crypto payments?
Paying for you vpn subscription using Bitcoins ensure that you give as little information about you as possible.

NordVPN currently supports all the major payment platforms, credit cards and cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
It, however, does not allow payments via PayPal.

VyprVPN, on the other hand, only supports payment via credit cards and payment platforms or crypto payments.
It does not allow anonymous payment methods.
So if you are looking for a vpn that supports Bitcoin payments then I recommend NordVPN over VyprVPN.
In Conclusion
I hope this NordVPN vs VyprVPN review in 2021 has opened your eyes into the capabilities of these two amazing vpn services.
Are you now ready to make your choice between VyprVPN or NordVPN?
Both vpns are great for streaming and torrenting.
But if you want a vpn that has additional advanced security features like dedicated IPs and split tunneling then I recommend NordVPN.
On the other hand, if you just want a cheap vpn that will enable you stream content on Netflix then VyprVPN it is.
Have you used any of these two vpns before?
