About

VyprVPN is a VPN company owned by GoldenFrog based in Switzerland that enables you to access the internet anonymous and privately.

Here is the link to an in depth review of VyprVPN.

TorGuard, on the other hand, is a US-based VPN company that provides you with private internet access and anonymous torrenting through their TorGuard anonymous VPN.

Here is an indepth TorGuard review.

Server Collection

Which VPN has more servers, between TorGuard and VyprVPN?

The VPN that has a bigger collection of servers will provide you with more options when you are selecting a server to connect to.

So if you are not pleased by the performance of one particular server you’ll easily find another to connect to.

VyprVPN only has around 700 servers based in 70 different countries, by the time I was writing this TorGuard vs VyprVPN comparison.

TorGuard, on the flip side, has more than 3,000 servers that are located in 50 different countries.

As you can see, while TorGuard has more servers in general, VyprVPN has their servers covering more countries than TorGuard. So I recommend VyprVPN if you are looking for a VPN with a wider geographical coverage.

Streaming

When it comes to streaming entertainment content on geo-restricted platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime

How do VyprVPN vs TorGuard streaming capabilities compare?

In case your main use for a VPN will be to stream video content on platforms like Netflix, then you should choose a VPN that unblocks the most number of streaming platforms.

VyprVPN is able to unblock different Netflix libraries for countries like Canada, UK and US among others.

In addition to that, you can also use their servers to stream content on Hulu, Amazon Prime and BBC iPlayer.

Since their streaming servers are not labelled, if you want to use VyprVPN to stream content on any of these platforms, just connect to a server located in the country whose content you want to access and then launch your streaming app.

TorGuard, however, functions differently when it comes to streaming.

To begin with, TorGuard is not able to unblock any streaming platform using their shared IPs.

So if you want to use it for streaming, then you must first purchase a dedicated IP separately. Once purchased, this dedicated IP will enable you to unblock streaming content on different platforms for the country that it is based in.

Even though this comes at an additional cost to your original purchase price, these dedicated IPs will unblock most of the streaming platforms that you’ll need, like unblocking BBC iPlayer.

However, I recommend VyprVPN if you are looking for a VPN that has great streaming capabilities out of the box, without having to purchase anything additional.

Speeds

In order to enjoy great streaming, browsing or downloading experience, your VPN needs to be fast enough.

This way, you don’t have to wait for your video to buffer while streaming.

Since most VPNs lie about their speeds, I personally tested the speeds of both VyprVPN and TorGuard to establish the truth about their connection speeds.

How do VyprVPN vs TorGuard speeds compare?

I tested the speeds of these two VPNs by connecting to 3 different servers based in Hong Kong, the US and UK. I then used the website speedtest.net to measure the changes in download and upload speeds before and after connecting to their servers.

VyprVPN gave me an average download speed that was 79% of my original speeds, while TorGuard maintained an average download speed that was 87% of my before speeds.

As you can see, TorGuard is a much faster VPN service compared to VyprVPN.

In fact, since VyprVPN had less than 80% of my initial speeds, which I consider the minimum for a fast VPN, I would rate VyprVPN speeds as rather average.

So if you are looking for a VPN that has faster connection speeds then I recommend TorGuard.

Torrenting

You don’t want to be caught downloading copyrighted material from the internet.

Law enforcement is dealing a heavy hand right now on copyright offenders. You don’t want to be found on the wrong side of the law.

This is not to say that you should download copyrighted content, but anytime you download any torrent file ensure you stay safe by using an anonymous VPN service.

It will hide your actual IP so that your torrenting activities cannot be traced back to you.

How does VyprVPN and TorGuard compare in terms of their torrenting support?

VyprVPN and TorGuard all allow torrenting on all their servers, at the time of writing this TorGuard vs VyprVPN comparison.

That means that if you want to start P2P file-sharing, you don’t need to first connect to any special P2P servers as all their servers are P2P optimized.

That being said, you’ll get better download speeds from TorGuard because it is a faster VPN than VyprVPN.

I recommend TorGuard anonymous VPN if you want fast and anonymous torrenting.

Privacy Policy

You don’t want any single entity possessing your entire internet history.

Before you rush to say that you don’t have anything to hide, you should know that with a lot of information about you, an entity has too much power that they can easily wield against you.

So your government, your ISP or even your VPN provider should not know what you are up to online.

In order to ensure that that’s the case, always only use a VPN that collects as little information about you as possible.

Let’s now compare VyprVPN with TorGuard in terms of their privacy policies.

VyprVPN, to begin with, is located in Switzerland which is a privacy-friendly place to base a VPN company because this country does not form part of the 14 eyes countries.

In addition to that, VyprVPN wants to ensure your internet access is private and states in their privacy policy that they do not keep logs of your IP, connection timestamps or even total bandwidth usage.

It means there are no logs on their servers that could be used to identify you.

TorGuard, on the other hand, is located in the US. The US is not a privacy friendly place for a VPN company to base as the United States is a founding member of the 14 eyes countries surveillance alliance that spy on their citizens and share their personal information.

That being said, TorGuard states in their privacy policy that they do not log traffic.

While that might sound good, I think TorGuard could do a better job of stating exactly what logs they don’t keep… just like VyprVPN does.

However, if you are looking for a VPN that has a no logs policy and is great for privacy online, then I recommend either VyprVPN or TorGuard.

Encryption and Data Protection

If you want to ensure that your data is secure online then encryption is your best friend.

By using a tamper-proof encryption technology you’ll ensure that your personal information can never be seen in plain text by a malicious hacker who hijacks your network traffic.

How do VyprVPN and TorGuard both guarantee your security online?

VyprVPN uses AES 256-bit encryption which is a bulletproof encryption technology and that is impossible to hack.

TorGuard, on the flip side, offers you both 256-bit and 128-bit encryption technologies options in your VPN application.

Even though both technologies are impossible to crack, 256-bit offers better security while 128-bit encryption has better connection speeds.

What about the connection protocols?

VyprVPN supports OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec and Chameleon protocols.

TorGuard, on the other hand, will provide you with protocol options that include OpenVPN, OpenConnect, L2TP/IPSec and IKEv2 connection protocols.

Overall, both VyprVPN and TorGuard will provide you with secure internet access.

So if you are looking for a VPN that guarantees secure internet access using advanced technologies then either TorGuard or VyprVPN is a great option.

Ad Blockers

If you feel bombarded by internet ads these days then you are not alone.

Sometimes I want to just block all the ads on certain websites because they are so aggressive that they feel very intrusive and annoying at the same time.

Thanks to some premium VPNs that provide ad blockers, you can be able to block ads on these websites.

Once activated, these VPN ad blockers can also block the tracking scripts that these websites install on your browser, so that they are not able to track you around the web and bother you with the same ad.

VyprVPN and TorGuard, luckily, both have ad blockers in their apps at the time of writing this TorGuard vs VyprVPN comparison in 2021.

These ad blockers will enable you to disable ads and enjoy an ad free browsing experience on most websites.

In addition to that, these apps also have malware blockers that will protect your device from known malware infected sites like phishing websites that steal your information.

I recommend either VyprVPN or TorGuard if you are looking for a VPN that has an ad and malware blocker.

Dedicated IPs

Do you need a dedicated IP that you can whitelist in your network in order to have secure remote access?

A dedicated IP is a way to get an IP address that is both secure and only used by you… as opposed to shared IPs that all VPNs assign you.

It also reduces the chances that your IP has been abused and blacklisted on others sites.

VyprVPN, unfortunately, does not support dedicated IPs at the time I was writing this VyprVPN vs TorGuard comparison. On the flip side, TorGuard provides dedicated IPs, just like I already mentioned in the streaming section.

However, you’ll need to purchase these IPs separately.

However, once you have it, it is unique to you, so you can even use it to access your home security camera feed remotely.

But let me remind you that since dedicated IPs are tied to your account, activities on this IP can easily be traced back to you… so don’t torrent with a dedicated IP.

I recommend TorGuard if you are looking for a VPN with a dedicated IP address.

Kill Switch

How do you ensure that your actual IP never get revealed on the websites that you visit on the web?

By always encrypting all your internet traffic on your device and channelling it through your secure VPN tunnel.

So when your VPN app disconnects from the server, like when your internet connection drops or when you are switching servers, you should terminate internet access for your entire device until your VPN reconnects.

This ensures that other applications do not continue to access the internet unprotected, thus revealing your IP.

A VPN kill switch will block internet access for your entire device anytime that your VPN disconnects from the server.

VyprVPN and TorGuard both have amazing kill switches that will ensure that you are only able to access the internet through your secure VPN tunnel.

So your torrenting apps will have to be stopped until your VPN reconnects securely.

If you are looking for a VPN that supports a kill switch then either TorGuard or VyprVPN is a great option.

Split Tunnelling

Do you want to be able to split tunnels so that while some traffic is channelled through your VPN, some pass as usual through your ISP?

You might consider doing this, for example, if you don’t want your app that runs backups to be slowed down by the speed drops caused by your VPN connection.

So how do VyprVPN and TorGuard compare in terms of their split tunnelling capabilities?

VyprVPN, unfortunately, does not have a split tunnel at the time of writing this VyprVPN vs TorGuard comparison.

TorGuard, on the flip side, has a split tunnel in its apps that enable you to whitelist and exempt certain applications from your VPN tunnel.

Once you specify these applications, their traffic will not be encrypted and routed through your VPN. They’ll flow as usual through your ISP, and so they’ll be able to enjoy the full speeds that your ISP assigns you.

That being said, remember that traffic on these whitelisted applications is therefore transparent to your ISP and does not have the additional encryption and security that a VPN provides.

If you are looking for a VPN that supports split tunnelling then I recommend TorGuard over VyprVPN.

Works in China?

Will either VyprVPN or TorGuard work in China?

In order to work in China, a VPN has to make its traffic look like normal https traffic.

This way it can bypass the deep packet inspection technology of the great firewall of China undetected.

Because the Chinese government keeps tabs on you on the internet, they want to ensure they see everything that you access while online.

And since a VPN makes you invisible to the government, they work their butts off to ensure that your VPN does not work in China so you don’t use it to access censored content.

TorGuard and VyprVPN, luckily, both have sophisticated technologies that will enable you to access internet flawlessly in China.

In order to use VyprVPN in China, you first need to switch to the Chameleon protocol. Once connected with this protocol, your internet traffic is invisible to the DPI technology of China’s firewall.

TorGuard will only work in China using the OpenConnect protocol and after activating the STunnel feature in your VPN app.

I recommend either TorGuard or VyprVPN if you are looking for a VPN that works in China.

Pricing

As we near the end of this VyprVPN vs TorGuard comparison, let’s compare their pricing plans to establish the cheaper VPN.

Both TorGuard and VyprVPN will offer you great discounts on their longest pricing plans.

VyprVPN has a 2-year plan that costs $ 2.71/month, while TorGuard has a 1-year plan that costs $ 59.99/year, which is approximately $ 5/month.

So as you can see, VyprVPN is a much cheaper VPN and gives you longer subscription plans that save you the hassle of creating new VPN accounts every year that comes.

If you are looking for a cheap VPN that will save you some bucks, then I recommend VyprVPN over TorGuard.

Payment Options

Let’s finish this TorGuard vs VyprVPN comparison by looking at the various payments options that each provides.

If you want to stay as anonymous as possible, always opt for anonymous payment methods like Bitcoin that do not require you to provide your billing address.

VyprVPN only supports payments options like credit card and PayPal, but not crypto payments.

TorGuard, on the flip side, supports PayPal, all major credit cards and cryptocurrency payments through Bitcoin. So if you are looking for a VPN that supports Bitcoin payments then I recommend TorGuard over VyprVPN.

In Conclusion

I hope this TorGuard vs VyprVPN comparison in 2021 has helped you learn the strengths and weaknesses of these two VPNs.

Are you now ready to make a choice between either TorGuard or VyprVPN?

If you are looking for a VPN that has fast speeds, supports anonymous torrenting on all their servers and provides a dedicated IP address then I recommend TorGuard.

However, if you are looking for a VPN with excellent streaming capabilities, does not keep logs and works in China then I recommend VyprVPN.
