This means that you’ll have a ton of options when choosing the appropriate server to connect to.

In terms of my speed tests, I connected to PIA servers based in the US, UK and Hong Kong and PIA emerged the fastest VPN among all the VPNs I tested.

Before connecting to their servers, I had download speeds of 25.71Mbps.

The US based server gave me download speeds of 23.86Mbps which was a slight drop from the original speeds as this is 93% of the original speeds.

PIA UK based server had a download speed of 23.50Mbps… again a drop in speed but not that big of a drop as this is 91% of the initial speed.

Lastly, the PIA server based in Hong Kong had a final download speed of 24.83Mbps which is 97% of my initial speeds.

Overall, Private Internet Access had an average speed drop that was 94% of my original speed which also gives PIA a speed rating of 4.7/5 stars.

2. Surfshark

Surfshark also performed very well in the speed tests that I conducted.

It is a vpn company based in the British Virgin Islands that has 1,040 servers located in 61 different countries.

Surfshark provides secure and fast internet access and is the best vpn for speed and security in this list.

I connected to three of Surfhsark servers based in the US, UK and Hong Kong and here is what I established.

Before connecting to any of their servers, I had a download speed of 20.60Mbps.

After connecting to a Surfshark server based in the United States, my download speed dropped to 17.96Mbps which is 87% of my initial speeds.

The Surfshark server based in the United Kingdom had a download speed of 19.09Mbps which is 93% of my initial download speed.

Lastly, their Hong Kong based server had a download speed of 22.69Mbps which is more than 100% of my initial speeds.

As you can see Surfshark is not only the best vpn for speed increase, but it was also able to increase my initial download speeds when connecting to their server based in Hong Kong.

3. ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN is another one of the best vpns for internet speeds that is located in the British Virgin Islands.

It currently has more than 3,000 servers in 94 countries which means if you don’t find a fast enough server, you can easily switch to another server with better speeds.

As per my speeds tests, ExpressVPN came third with an average download speed of 87.5% of my initial speeds.

I connected to ExpressVPN servers that are located in the United Kingdom, the United States and Hong Kong.

Before connecting to their servers, my download speeds were 31.50Mbps.

After connecting to an ExpressVPN US-based server, I had a download speed of 27.32Mbps which is 87% of my initial download speed.

The ExpressVPN server located in the United Kingdom performed poorly with download speeds of 25.08Mbps which is 80% of my initial speeds.

Lastly, the Hong Kong based ExpressVPN server had better speeds of 30Mbps which is 95% of my initial speeds.

It seems like the Hong Kong servers and the US-based servers are more optimized for speed than the UK based server.

Overall, ExpressVPN had an average download speed that was 87% of my initial speeds.

I was quite surprised by these results because ExpressVPN is touted as the fastest VPN yet it came in at a distant third.

That being said, I would still rate it as one of the fastest VPNs because it was able to keep at least 80% of my original connection speeds.

4. TorGuard

TorGuard is the fourth vpn on this list of the fastest vpns for internet browsing.

It has more than 3,000 servers in 50 countries and is currently located in the United States.

Even though it is most common among torrent file downloaders, it also surprised me that it actually rated as the fastest vpn for torrenting.

Before connecting to TorGuard servers, I had a download speed of 22.76Mbps.

After connecting to the TorGuard server located in the United States, my download speeds dropped to 20.29Mbps which is 89% of my original speeds.

The TorGuard server based in the United Kingdom had a download speed of 21.16Mbps which is 93% of my initial speeds… this was much better than the speeds on the US server.

Lastly, the TorGuard server based in Hong Kong had a download speed of 18.27Mbps which was 80% of my before speeds.

From these speeds tests, it is clear that TorGuard servers located in the UK are generally faster than all the others.

This makes it one of the best vpns for fast download speeds.

5. PrivateVPN

PrivateVPN is rather small Swedish vpn company that performed very well in these speeds tests.

Yet even with this paltry collection it did beat some big names in the vpn industry and emerged as one of the best vpns for fast speeds.

Before connecting to PrivateVPN servers, my download speeds were 3.70Mbps.

The PrivateVPN server that is located in the United States had a download speed of 2.75Mbps which is 74% of my initial speeds… not great at all.

However, the PrivateVPN server that is located in the UK more than amazed me. It had a download speed of 3.75Mbps which is more than 100% of my original speeds.

Their server in Hong Kong, on the other hand had a pretty slow speed of 2.43Mbps which is just 68% of my initial speeds… again, not great.

Overall, PrivateVPN had it fastest vpn servers located in the UK, so if you want the best speeds connect to their servers based in the United Kingdom.

On average, PrivateVPN gave me a download speed that was 86% of my initial speeds which gives its download speeds a rating of 4.3/5 stars.

6. IPVanish

IPVanish is a VPN company based in the US that also emerged as one of the fastest VPNs for gaming because of its high-speed connections.

Even though they used to keep logs, IPVanish does not keep logs anymore which makes it also one of the best VPNs for speed and privacy.

In terms of their server collection, they only have 1,300 servers but spread out widely to cover 75 different countries.

Before connecting to any of IPVanish servers, I had download speeds of 25.39Mbps.

Their server that is located in the US gave me a download speed of 22.76Mbps which is 90% of my initial speeds.

The IPVanish server located in the UK, however, did not perform as great because it had a download speed of 18.32Mbps, which is 72% of my initial speed… that’s quite low.

On the flip side, the IPVanish server based in Hong Kong had a download speed of 22.63Mbps, which is 89% of my initial speeds.

As you can see, IPVanish has their fastest servers located in US and Hong Kong.

With an average download speed that is 84% of my initial speeds, IPVanish has a speed rating of 4.2/5 stars.

So it’s still one of the fastest vpns for PC in 2021.

7. StrongVPN

StrongVPN is also a popular name when shopping for the fastest vpns in 2021.

It is based in Switzerland and will provide private and secure internet access using some of the most secure encryption technologies out there.

In terms of their internet speeds, I connected to their servers based in the US, UK and Hong Kong and here is what I established.

Just before connecting to any StrongVPN server, I had a download speed of 23.75Mbps.

After connecting the StrongVPN based in the US, my speeds dropped to 22.64Mbps which is still 88% of my initial speeds… great.

On the UK based StrongVPN server, I experienced a further speed drop as I was only able to crunch 20.72Mbps, which is only 80% of before download speeds.

The server in Hong Kong performed slightly better with download speeds of 20.79Mbps, which is 83% of initial speeds.

On average, StrongVPN had a download speed of 83% of my original speed which gives its speed a star rating of 4.2/5 stars.

Because StrongVPN is one of the vpns that unblock Netflix, it qualifies as one of the fastest VPNs for Netflix.

8. CyberGhost

Next in this list of the fastest vpns in 2021 is CyberGhost.

Being a vpn company located in Romania, it is pretty much in a privacy friendly location.

CyberGhost has great streaming capabilities because it is able to unblock the most popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and iPlayer.

Let’s now analyze how CyberGhost servers performed during my speed tests.

Initially, I had a download speed of 3.59Mbps before connecting to CyberGhost servers.

My download speeds after connecting to CyberGhost servers in the US dropped to 2.95Mbps which is 82% of my before speeds.

In addition to that, the UK based CyberGhost server had a download speed of 3.86Mbps which is more than 100% of my initial download speeds before connecting to their servers… their servers in the UK were really fast.

That being said, the CyberGhost server based in Hong Kong performed rather poorly.

It was only able to crunch 2.43Mbps, which is only 68% of my initial speeds. In fact, it is the HK servers that made CyberGhost have an overall low percentage and appear at the bottom of this list of the fastest VPNs for streaming.

Overall, CyberGhost had an average speed that was 83% of my initial speeds… giving it a speed rating of 4.2/5 stars.

Since it’s able to unblock the most number of streaming platforms, CyberGhost definitely qualifies as the fastest VPN for streaming.

9. NordVPN

Now comes the VPN I like most because of their advanced security features yet it keeps disappointing me when it comes to their internet speeds.

NordVPN is a VPN company located in Panama that enables you to access the internet securely at great speeds… even though not as fast of ExpressVPN.

With 5,200 servers located in 59 countries, NordVPN is a pretty big VPN company with a ton of server options to choose from when connecting.

Because it has a very sleek Android app, I would also rate NordVPN as the fastest vpn for Android.

Here is how my speed test panned out.

Before connecting to any NordVPN servers I had a download speed of 23.62Mbps.

When I connected to the NordVPN server located in the United States, I had a download speed of 15.34Mbps, which is only 65% of my initial speed.

As you can see, NordVPN is clearly not the fastest VPN for streaming. Most streaming happen on US-based servers because the US has the largest collection of tv series. So at the very least, their servers that are located in the United States should be fast enough.

However, the UK based server performed really great with download speeds of 19.35Mbps, which is 82% of original download speeds.

Better still, the NordVPN server located in Hong Kong was the best as I got a download speed of 25.33Mbps, which is more than 100% of my before download speeds.

Overall, NordVPN had an average download speed of 82% of my initial speeds… giving NordVPN speeds a rating of 4.1/5 stars.

As you can see, if not for the US-based servers, NordVPN could actually have made it as the fastest VPN for Netflix in the US.

But since it works in China, it qualifies as the fastest vpn for China.

10. VyprVPN

Last in this list of the best vpns for high speed internet access is VyprVPN.

It is a vpn company located in Switzerland with a collection of 700 servers based in 70 different countries.

Even though it is rather a smaller VPN company compared to the big players like NordVPN, is was also able to crunch some great download speeds as we’ll see in a bit.

I would also rate it as one of the fastest VPNs for Netflix as it is able to unblock Netflix, and their server based in the United States performed really well.

Here are the speed test results for VyprVPN.

Before connecting to any of their servers, I had a download speed of 25.61Mbps.

The VyprVPN server that is located in the US had a download speed of 20.91Mbps, which is 82% of my initial download speeds.

In fact with this speed, you can seamlessly stream any Netflix show in HD quality with VyprVPN.

However, the VyprVPN servers based in the United Kingdom are not great for speeds because I could only get 18.05Mbps, which is 70% of my initial speeds.

Even though this is still great for HD streaming, it is not fast enough for streaming BBC iPlayer in 4K qualities.

Last but not least is the Hong Kong server that had better speeds of 21.90Mbps, 86% of my before download speeds.

Because the UK servers were quite slow, VyprVPN ended up with an average download speed of 79% of my before download speeds.

This gives VyprVPN a speed rating of 4.0/5 stars which is rather average.

Even though VyprVPN performed great on other servers except their server based in the UK, I would rate the VyprVPN speeds as average overall because they are less than 80% of the before connections.

A vpn that I would consider the best vpn for internet speed should keep at least 80% of my initial speeds.

The Losers…

There are also other VPNs that I tested that, while they performed great on other servers, had an average download speed less than 80% of before speeds.

It is for this reason that these vpns did not make it into the list of the best vpns for speed and security.

Hidemyass had a download speed of 29.29Mbps before connecting to their servers, 20.89Mbps on the US server (71%), 22.92Mbps on the UK server (78%) and 24.67Mbps on the Hong Kong server which is 84% of before speeds.

HMA had an average that’s 78% of initial speeds, giving HMA download speeds a rating of 3.9/5 stars.

That’s pretty low for a vpn that wants to be named the fastest vpn for Netflix.

PureVPN had a download speed of 21.52Mbps before connecting to their servers, 15.73Mbps on the US server (73%), 16.34Mbps on the UK based server (76%) and 16.52Mbps on their Hong Kong servers.

PureVPN, therefore, had an average download speed that was 76% of my before speeds… giving it a rating of 3.8/5 stars.

Again, that’s too low for a vpn that wants to be named the fastest vpn for China.

So, there you have the winners and the losers.

Some VPNs like Surfshark are even able to increase your speeds... if you want a VPN that will increase your speeds.

In fact, NordVPN, CyberGhost, PrivateVPN and Surfshark qualifies as the best vpns for speed increase.
